SAIRAC KZN learns more about BMS

The monthly technical meeting for SAIRAC KZN took place on 11 April where members and guests learned more about building management systems (BMS) during this well-attended event.

The talk was presented by Rowan Van Wyk of Integrated Controls Systems who addressed the KwaZulu-Natal centre of the South African Institute of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (SAIRAC) on all things BMS.

He started by looking what a BMS is and why you need it and he also looked at the various components that make up a BMS. He spoke about human machine interfaces as well as graphical user interfaces, data logging, reporting, alarm management and event logging. Van Wyk’s talk also defined architecture and communication protocols, touching on popular options such as BACnet, Konnex, Modbus, Lon works / Lon talk and other protocols.
