The Johannesburg centre of SAIRAC had its monthly technical meeting on 16 February 2017, talking about the dos and the don’ts of paints and coatings.
The monthly Johannesburg meeting of the South African Institute of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (SAIRAC) took place at the customary Bryanston Sports Club. The topic for the evening was ‘Basic paint shop, paint technology, generics, and curing mechanisms of coatings. Looking into the application of products, the advantages and disadvantages of various applications, i.e. brush, roller, spray applications.’
Andre van Zyl, mining concept manager from Jotun, presented a very informative talk. He dealt with topics such as where to use the different types of paint, how to apply the paint to your application, and how the elements will affect the different types of paint.
A total of 25 SAIRAC members and visitors attended the talk, which was well received by all.
The Jotun Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of paints, coatings, and powder coatings. In South Africa, they are present in the protective and marine coatings markets.
After the talk, all present enjoyed finger snacks and shared their paint challenges, asking about the standards required for projects.
Personally, this was also an exhilarating evening for me, as I officially received my certificate for joining SAIRAC as an associate member!
