In February, the South African Institute of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (SAIRAC) invited 15 members of its Johannesburg centre to join them at Eskom’s Komati Power Station.
Once a quarter, all Eskom’s HVAC staff meet at one of its power stations to discuss all things HVAC related. They invited industry to provide some input on matters such as the refrigerant phase out and aligning with standards and regulations.
In return, visitors were treated to a tour of the power plant’s HVAC plantroom and the general facility. This was incredibly interesting. In particular, it was great to see an installation of such magnitude — something one doesn’t encounter every day. Unfortunately, no cameras were allowed on the premises.
After the tour, the group provided feedback to the meeting, giving some tips on how to improve general conditions and maintenance.
